Golden Hour, Every Hour: The Story Behind Our Sunshine Design

Florida gets 237 sunny days a year on average. That's not a fun fact — that's a lifestyle. It's the reason people move here, the reason they stay, and the reason that after a week of gray skies anywhere else in the country, Floridians start to feel genuinely unwell.

The sun isn't just weather in Florida. It's the whole vibe.

Why Florida Light Is Different

There's a reason artists, photographers, and filmmakers are obsessed with Florida light. The combination of latitude, humidity, and the way the sun interacts with water — the Atlantic, the Gulf, the lakes, the rivers, the Everglades — creates a quality of light that's genuinely unlike anywhere else in the country.

Golden hour in Florida doesn't last an hour. It lasts all afternoon. The light goes from white-hot at noon to amber to deep orange to that impossible pink-purple that makes you stop whatever you're doing and just look.

The Best Places to Chase Florida Sunshine

These are the spots where Florida's sun hits different:

  • Caladesi Island State Park (Dunedin) — Consistently ranked one of the most beautiful beaches in America. Accessible only by ferry or kayak, which keeps it blissfully uncrowded. Entry is $8/vehicle to the ferry parking area. The west-facing beach means sunsets that will rearrange your priorities.
  • Bahia Honda State Park (Big Pine Key) — Surrounded by water on both sides, this Keys park offers sunrises and sunsets over the ocean. Entry is $8/vehicle. Bring a hammock.
  • Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park (Gainesville) — A vast open prairie in North Florida where bison roam and the sky feels enormous. The La Chua Trail at sunrise, with mist rising off the water and the sun breaking through — it's the kind of thing that makes you feel lucky to be alive. Entry is $5/vehicle.
  • Cayo Costa State Park (near Cape Coral) — Accessible only by boat, this barrier island is one of Florida's most pristine beaches. No crowds, no development, just nine miles of Gulf Coast shoreline and all the sunshine you can handle. Entry is $3/person by boat.
  • Jonathan Dickinson State Park (Hobe Sound) — Right here in our backyard on the Treasure Coast. The Loxahatchee River at golden hour, with ospreys overhead and manatees in the water below — this is the Florida we're always trying to share. Entry is $6/vehicle.

The Design

Our Sunshine design is about that feeling — the warmth on your shoulders, the squint against the glare, the way everything looks a little more golden and a little more possible when the Florida sun is doing its thing. It's optimistic. It's warm. It's home.

Because here's the truth: you don't have to be standing on a beach to feel it. You just have to be paying attention.
