Standing Still in a World That Won't Stop: The Story Behind Our Blue Heron Design

There's a moment every Floridian knows. You're walking along a canal, a riverbank, or the edge of a quiet lagoon — and you freeze. Because standing there, absolutely motionless, is a Great Blue Heron. Neck coiled like a spring. Eyes locked on the water below. Completely unbothered by the world rushing past.

That moment is exactly what inspired our Blue Heron design.

Florida's Most Iconic Wading Bird

The Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) is the largest heron in North America, and Florida is one of the best places on earth to see them. They're year-round residents here — you'll spot them on the Intracoastal, in the Everglades, along the St. Johns River, and honestly, standing in someone's backyard koi pond like they own the place.

They can stand still for what feels like forever, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. And when they do? It's over in a flash. There's something deeply Florida about that energy — unhurried, sun-soaked, but quietly sharp.

Where to See Them

If you want a proper Blue Heron encounter, these are some of our favorite spots:

  • Green Cay Wetlands (Boynton Beach) — A 1.5-mile boardwalk through a freshwater marsh where herons are practically posing for photos. Free admission, and the sunrise light here is unreal.
  • Wakodahatchee Wetlands (Delray Beach) — One of the best birding spots in the entire Southeast. Great Blue Herons nest here alongside anhingas, roseate spoonbills, and more. Free to visit.
  • Myakka River State Park (Sarasota) — Florida's largest state park, where herons stalk the shallows of the river and Upper Myakka Lake. Entry is $6/vehicle.
  • Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge (Titusville) — On the Space Coast, where you might see a heron silhouetted against a rocket launch. Only in Florida.

The Design

When we sat down to create the Blue Heron design, we wanted to capture that stillness — that quiet confidence. The heron isn't flashy. It doesn't need to be. It just is, fully present in its environment, doing exactly what it was made to do.

We think that's a pretty good way to move through Florida, too.
